Randal Williams, 37, San Marcos CA
Randal's first exposure to the motorcycling world was in the summer of 1983 with a Honda ATC-110. He spent the next five years moving through the woods and fire roads of Texas and Alabama on various ATV's and dirt bikes. Upon completing a successful tour of duty in the United States Navy, Randal purchased his first street bike, a 1994 Honda Magna. It was not until three years later, at his first track day on the Magna at Willow Springs where the incentive to get into sport bike riding really took hold. Randal has ridden motorcycles exclusively since 1998. Along the way, he has completed two Saddlesore 1000's, including doing one of them two-up. He has also completed many instructional one-up and two-up track day classes. His current mechanical stable consists of a 2000 Honda VFR800 and a 2002 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Randal first experimented with adding HID lighting to his bikes and has helped others enjoy the additional light and safety they bring to night time riding. When Randal is not blazing a path through the night on his bikes, you will find him keeping the Network running for Verizon Wireless.
Mike Conaway, 41, San Diego CA
Mike was bitten by the motorcycle bug as an early teen in New
Orleans, LA. After much convincing, his parents bought him a 75cc dirt
bike. From there, he graduated up to a 125cc and finally a 250cc
motocross bike. His first taste of a street bike was when a friend let him ride his
cousin’s KZ 900 in 1980. From that point it was street all the way.
Next was a used KZ 1000 followed by a new 1983 ZX 900 Ninja. After 7
moist years in Seattle, Mike moved to San Diego, and better riding.
Having ridden the Ninja for 16 years, So Cal riding demanded new
equipment. In 1999, Mike bought a BMW K1200RS and in 2004 he added a
Yamaha FZ-1. Both of those rides are currently in the stable. Mike has completed several Saddle Sore 1000 endurance rides in
addition to many rides through N. Cal and several western states. Mike
can be found riding with his SBA partners on Friday nights and on
Saturday and Sunday riding the San Diego county twisties, sometimes
with his wife riding pillion. When not riding, Mike enjoys sharing good wine with his wife and
friends and working his day job as a medical equipment salesman.
John Falkenthal, 42, San Diego CA
Growing up in a motorcycle family had its advantages. John’s father Harry was an off-road racer in the 50’s and 60’s, and a successful motorcycle entrepreneur in San Diego. John's first motorcycle was a Honda 50 mini-bike. John spent his youth riding enduro bikes in Baja California Mexico, with his father and the Los Ancianos MC. John has been riding street motorcycles since 1987. Some of his favorite rides have been a 1984 Nighthawk S, a 1986 Yamaha SRX-6, and his current ride, a 2000 Yamaha YZF-R1. John has successfully completed 4 Saddlesore 1000 endurance rides on his R1, and has completed several other long distance sport rides, including a 3000+ mile adventure through the southwestern United States. John also enjoys track days at Willow Springs, and has successfully completed several instruction based track schools. You can find John riding his R1 just about every Friday night from April through October, all over southern California, with the other founders of Sport Bike Adventures. When not riding his motorcycle, John enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, volunteering in the community, and his day job as a software engineering manager for Sun Microsystems.
