Yes, our route book identifies the specific gas station (and also notes store hours, if the pumps are 24/7, and any specific credit cards not accepted at the pump). As long as you get a receipt from any source that shows the correct location, date, and time, you will get the thumbs up at the finish.
Also, not sure how the whole start-end witness thing works, but will at least the start witnessing be done at the driver's meeting? Will there be a "check-in" at the end where we can get end witnesses? I'm not clear on the IBA requirements, it says the start/end witness can't be a friend "on the same ride with you". Can various of us unrelated riders witness for each other?
SBA takes are of the start and finish and witness requirements. All you need to do is ride and collect receipts. The start and finish will be run by SBA members and volunteers. At the start, riders will line up, we will note odometer and exit time and you'll be on your way. At the finish (same location as start) there will be a volunteer who will review your receipts, and odometer. You will be notified on the spot if there is a problem, or if everything is ok. We will go over this at the riders meeting just prior to the start. All this information is forwarded to the IBA by us, you then fill out a simple form (which we give you) to send into IBA for membership in their organization and certification as an Iron Butt Association Member.
I'm asking not only because of my unfamiliarity with the IBA, but because I expect most people will trickle in rather beat over a period of time Sunday morning, and it's a bad time to be running around trying to locate a witness
Absolutely agree. Riders only need to focus on the ride, we will do all the rest. You'll want to get signed off as quickly as possible at the finish so you can find a bed
